Creating a Europeana account allows you to save your favourite items and create public and private galleries. It's quick and easy – here's how.
How to join
To make an account, click Login/Join in the top menu. Then, on the registration page, enter your email address, choose a username and create and confirm a secure password (minimum of eight characters). Then confirm that you are at least 13 years old and have read and are accepting Europeana's Terms of use and our Privacy policy.
After you have completed and submitted the registration form, we'll send you an email to verify the email address linked to your new account. Then, click the enclosed link, and your account is ready!
How to like items
With an account, it's easy to save your favourite items for future reference. Simply click on the heart icon that you see on item pages and search results, and click again to un-like an item:
How to create a gallery
To create and build galleries of your favourite items, simply click on the + icon next to the item. A widget will appear prompting you to 'Create a new gallery' or add to an existing gallery, as shown here:
In the ‘My profile’ section of your account area, you can edit the names and descriptions of your galleries. In addition, you can choose whether to make your galleries private (visible to you only) or public (visible to other people). You can add as many items as you wish to a gallery, with the first 100 being visible on the website.
When viewing your gallery, you can also reorder how the items appear in your gallery by interacting with the ‘arrows’ icon, which enables you to drag and drop the items in the preferred order.
How to submit your gallery to be featured
Do you want to share your gallery with the world? You can send in your gallery to Europeana to possibly be featured in the future! If your gallery ends up being featured, it will be shown among the most recent published galleries on europeana.eu, so everyone can explore your own curated collection.
To send your gallery in to be featured, when looking at your gallery page click on the 'Submit for Publication' button right under your gallery title and description.
When you send your gallery to be featured, it will be checked by Europeana curators. You'll get a notification by email telling you if your gallery has been published or declined within one working week of you sending in your gallery for publication.
Your gallery will be evaluated using the following criteria. If your gallery is declined, we'll always send you a message with more information on why we've declined your gallery.
- Galleries should have a minimum of 15-20 items.
- If the topic, title, description or content of the gallery is deemed offensive, uncomfortable, insensitive or irrelevant, Europeana can decide to decline your gallery.
- Galleries can be multilingual. The title of every gallery should be available in English. If a gallery doesn't have an English title yet, the Europeana team will add an English title before publishing.
Please be aware that Europeana retains the right to edit any descriptions and titles before featuring your gallery, and after the gallery has been published.
