Handwaschbecken dieses Typs werden auch als „Gémellion“ bezeichnet. Dies leitet sich vom Lateinischen „gemellus“ Zwilling ab und verweist auf die paarweise Verwendung der reich verzierten Waschbecken, wobei eines zum Ausgießen, das andere zum Auffangen des Waschwassers diente.
