Early Frisian cog
This Frisian boat is an early 11th-century version of the cog, the popular medieval freight ship for overseas transport. The ship is suited for use on the sea but also in shallow water so that it can be loaded and unloaded in coastal areas, without a quay. It originated most probably in Frisia (today the Netherlands) when the Viking domination of the sea trade faded away in the 10th century.
