Remembering John Ballantyne
My granny was 20 years old when she married in 1913. To John Ballantyne he was 27. In 1916 on the 1st April she gave birth to her first child Matthew. John Ballantyne was a private in the Royal Irish Fusiliers, 1st Bn. He died on the 6th of July 1916 age 29yrs, at the Battle of the Somme. He was born in Ireland.
