Ireland's First Surfer, Joe Roddy, Dundalk, 1949
Surfing arrived in Ireland in 1949 when fourteen year old Joe Roddy took to the water on his homemade four metre paddle board near Dundalk.
Joe's board was inspired by an article he read about the Hawaiian "Sport Of Kings" in a Readers Digest.
