Mitteleuropa, Rheinland - Feldbrandziegelei
Central Europe, Rhineland - Making of Bricks and Burning in an Open-air Kiln
In a loam pit on the plateau of the anterior Hunsrück the loam is made into bricks after the old fashion: After drying the handmoulded, unfinished bricks, they are piled up into an open-air-oven, interspersed with channels and layers of coal, externally covered with loam, and burnt. After cooling, the oven is broken open: the sorted bricks are transported away.
