Housecoat
Several pieces of decorated chintz went into the making of this robe. The pattern was painted to fit the cut of the costume. The narrow edging at the front is not sewn on, but painted along with the main design, as was customary for this type of garment. The pattern consists of oversized flowers and fruit joined by curving, gnarled branches.
