Karel Hynek Mácha (1810–1836) was a Czech poet and author of prose, a representative of Czech Romanticism and a founder of Czech modern poetry. He published his lyrical epic poem, Máj (May) at his own cost shortly before his untimely death. His contemporaries did not understand Máj.
