The 27 Member States of the European Union agreed on the Treaty of Lisbon (reform treaty). After the ratification by all member states the treaty will become effective with January 1st, 2009. In Austria the Parliament will ratify the treaty, however, anti-EU activists demand a referendum on it, claiming that the treaty will change the bascis Austria's constitution.
