Side rake
This is a side rake, a thatching tool used for dressing down long straw and raking out waste. It consists of a piece of wood, broken at the handle end, with blacksmith-made metal eleven tines, and is inscribed 'F.S.H'. It was made by Mr Goswell, a carpenter from Finchampstead, Berkshire, and used by the donor's grandfather, F. S. Hat, a thatcher.
