Statue of Mary Seacole
This photograph shows a statue commemorating Mary Seacole, a British-Jamaican nurse who tended to those wounded on the battlefield of the Crimean War.
Mary Seacole was born in Jamaica in 1805. She moved to London for a year in 1821, and later lived in London for prolonged periods for the remainder of her life, until her death in 1881.
