My grandfather worked in Ardnacrusha
My grandfather, Paddy Byrne, was born around 1901 and lived in Drogheda.
He originally joined the British Army and then served in the Irish Free State Army. He had worked on heavy construction projects in Drogheda but, when work there became scarce, he travelled to Ardnacrusha to work on the Shannon Scheme.
As there were no social welfare payments, he had to travel to wherever he could get work.…
