A Plan of "the castell of Carliell, xx. feete in thinche;" drawn temp. Henry VIII
This is an architectural plan of Carlisle Castle,
drawn in about 1543. It is interesting as it shows a proposal by
Stefan Von Haschenburg for alterations to the castle. Haschenburg,
master of the King’s works in Carlisle, was keen to enhance the
castles ability to mount artillery for outward defence. Good
relations between England and Scotland were eroded after Henry
