At the end of 2008, the Austrian public employment service (AMS) was able to present an excellent statistic: Employment had increased and there were fewer people on the dole. This year, the number of job seekers will probably increase to 237 000. Short time work is going to increase. All in all, the AMS will spend one billion dollar on the fight against unemployment.
