Cotton wrapskirt with motives that refer to fertility and the Javanese world order
A wrapskirt with different motives that together are known as semèn. The semèn-motif is a set of symbolic motifs that refer to the meaning of the word: 'sprout', or 'grow'. This motif contains so much symbolism that it stands for both fertility and the Javanese belief in a cosmic order (McCabe Elliot, 1984:68).‖ This cloth depicts wings and pavilions.
